Elemental, I
Feb. 2nd, 2019 01:21 amWithin the hollowed logs
Of the forgotten forest
Neglected by careless humans
And forsaken by Undine,
Who shares her elements elsewhere,
Dwell I
Salamanders nest beneath me,
Thirsting for love, life, and
Warmth
But born of the fire,
Can only provide the latter
In these neglected woods
My strength comes from
That carelessly tossed
Lit Cigarette,
An accelerant,
Or from the Heavens above
As they strike at will,
Smiting those who seek only
Moisture, yet offering naught
But shocks of
Hot, white electricity
I live for this moment,
Oh I thrive for it,
Where I, and my Salamanders
Can race along
Consuming all with
Happy passion and
Fiery rage at our home’s
Neglect
The first to settle these lands
Set us free with fires
To burn the dry scrub
The cinders freed,
The salamanders fed
In my element, I
Scorched the skies in bliss
But those who lived here
Peacefully for centuries
Were conquered by others
Thirsty for golden ore
And other elements from
My very soil.
They took everything
From us, then when just
A soulless husk,
Derelict
Our caretakers
But scattered ashes.
Settlements formed
By these travelers
Who knew nothing about the land
They raped the land barren
And built their townships from the fallen trees
Offering naught in thanks
Like the caretakers did
A century later,
Freed from the idle forgetfulness
The land burns again,
Parched,
Untamed,
The salamanders have waited
Patiently for this moment
I with my wings
Once more, take flight
With ferocity and anger
Of having been neglected by these
Selfish cities at the edge of my forest
I yell to the sky calling
For Undine, who answers in song,
Softly from the sea
As I reach for the horizon, I see beyond
The boundaries of stones and
Ramshackle fences,
Broken roads which bind the ground
In hideous asphalt
Undine, my sister, is drowning
In a polluted gyre.
The undercurrents tangle her in
Netting and refuse
I race toward her
In forgotten desperation,
Scorching the ropes of asphalt,
Reducing these barbarous structures
To cinders
The salamanders give chase,
Sensing their Queen in distress,
Never truly having seen me angry
I cannot reach her
For fire cannot walk upon water
And with that,
I am erased by hoses of water,
Doused by Earth heating
Helicopters and blasts of polluted
Non-potable water
My younger sister Sylph
Blows hot gusts of wind
At the humans,
But I have lost my will
Nearly extinguished,
She sends one last ember
Of my incensed heart
Along on a light breeze
Back to the scorched
And forgotten woods
I called home
Sylph races west
As I utter my dying wish
Searching for Undine,
Drowned beneath the sea
